HOMEMADE CLUMPS

You must have the clumps as many as possible to keep making the wooden articles. In my case the things are same. I bought some of them, but now I made various types of the clumps to apply various articles.

One day I found that I have a mountain of the clumps. I would like to show you some. Many woodworkers make by themselves and introduce on the net. Their beautiful clumps are some kind of art, I think. But I make the clumps when I need without spending time nor cost.

I need not long clumps as I don't make large faniture etc. So, my clumps are all small made of scrap material.

Clump mountain on the workbench

There are various types.

Short bar clumps.

Deep C clump

Support tension bolt is put beside the back. Strong set is possible. However long arm is easily twisted because I used soft and thin 1x4 scrap wood. I will use next time more hard, thicker pieces or SS bar.

My first self made pipe clump

Much better unexpectedly

Parallel screw clump. This tipe is very useful. If you are interested in, please crick How to make parallel screw clump

I think that the screws are too long and thin for its total strength. Main body, jaws, are too large.

Easy parallel clumps. I can use them, but I do not use this type after above parallel screw clumps are made.

I improved the above easy hand screw clump adding the steel strap to set the screw parts. The clump is much better now, but still less performance. However this construction might be easier to build.

Bar clump made of soft steel.

I regret that pads are too large, but fixing force is very strong.

I needed strong clumps during band saw building shown above, threfore I made steel clumps. How to make steel clumps

This is a kind of bench vise, not clump. I fix this vise on the edge of the workbench so that I can fix large sized works. However, I do not make large items. I use this vise only seldom,

I tried to make such a small pinch clump. But there is no chance to use this.

Maybe scrap wood and the rubber band are good material of such small pinch clumps.

If you need long clumps, you can use the workbench as the clump itself.

Easy simple C wedge clamp.

If you need many small clumps, you can make as shown on the sketch. It is disposable, I think. However if you make same sized articles a lot, such clumps are very useful, I believe.

small clumps

It is no need to explain. Please refer to the photo above. I made these clumps of 24mm thickness plywood to cut out in "C" chape. I tapped 8mm screw on one arm where 8mm bolt comes in. A thin piese is made as a pad to avoide harm the work as shown in the photo. 300mm scale is put for size fefference.

Following is the newly made small screw crump.

I made this clumps for just fun. It does't work like other clumps, so you can it as the photo stand etc. You had better to wrap the rubber band when you use otherwize the rubber band would be much damaged on the clump.
