SHOP

I live in some small town in Hokkaidom the northern island of Japan. My house is now very old and need some reform, Almost of family members left this house, resulting it is too large for present life. I decided to make my own workshop reforming 2 rooms. In general, Japanese house is small comparing overseas. It is because of Japanese life style and philosophy, but still I have spare space to make the workshop. I feel I am lucky.

Anyway, I believe this Nekono Hitai, meaning cat's forehead, in English handkerchief size, is enough for my works. This new workshop is approximately 4m x 8m in size with built-in closet.

Farther advantage is perfect soundproof structure, i.e. double glass window, stuffed wall to protect against the cold, neighbor's house is far from the shop, therefore I can make big sound even in the midnight if necessary.

Also I have two storage house outside where I can keep the junk, materials etc.

However, of course I have to have some big disadvantages, i.e. it is very cold in winter for a half year, the lowest temp. is lower than -20C. At present the heater is plugged of sawdust.

Another problem is that it is very hard to buy even a peace of nail. There is no home center nor hardware store. Therefore, I have to spend 2 hours at least to go nearest larger town to purchase the tool, material etc. Recently I can purchase them on line, but it takes 1 week as this town is too far.

Therefore I have to keep a lot of spares.

I remember another advantage. I can find natural material such as tree branch, deer antler if I can run a risk of bear attack.Later I got a deer skull!

I'm preparing a movie to introduce my shop, but so far I can not find the good movie editing software.

Followings are some photos of my workshop.

The machines are almost my shopmade. Explained on other pages.
