The damped arm uses silicone oil. This oil is so viscous it is almost like grease.
How to adjust the Grace arm:
1) Remove screw and put silicone oil in the hollowed base.
2) Replace the screw, turning clockwise until you feel it bottom out.
3)Turn the screw a little more clockwise to lift the arm until the space between the arm and hollow is about .5mm to 1mm
A special headshell (see photo) is required for mounting the cartridge. We Japanese call this headshell "kasol"
This oil-damped arm was made to fit early, heavy cartridges. It can't accomodate most of the modern light-tracking cartridges.
To adjust tracking force originally, a weight was cemented at the place marked in blue.
The Denon DL-102 needs more weight than will fit here.
We clear this matter with some coins mounted on the arm.
Grace was made by Shinagawa Musen Company. Today we find no trace of the company or its name. Their oil-damped arm is sold only in second-hand shops.
