HOMEMADE DUST COLLECTER

Huge dust collector system is absolute necessity in the workshop. I did realized it as every thing is covered by sawdust in my workshop. When I started this workshop, only a vacuum cleaner is only necessity, but I was wrong. Endless battle with sawdust made me to build a certain cleaning system. Only choice is the cyclone system cleaner.

First point I had to solve was the motor. I tried to find on net or old power drill etc. but could not find suitable one. So, I purchased floor cleaner, the motor of which is 1200w. Price is much lower than motor only.

I found disassembled unit is equipped with very small motor. In such case, tremendously high rotation speed provide high power. I thought it is impossible for me to make fan as balancing is too severe, also self made fan cannot sustain high centrifugal force.

Therefore I used the fan and motor unit as it is. Fortunately I could broken cone sign on way of working the other day and stocked in the storage house.

Please refer to the followings.

I bought this cleaner to get motor only.

But the motor is too small, resulting rotation speed is quite high. This means it would be too hard to make adequate fan mechanism. So, I used this unit as it is.

Completed cyclone unit

Very strong sucking power is secured. But a lot of dust come to the filter after cyclone. Filter is double layers of non-woven fabric. I should check if tiny particles pass through the filter. If so, I have to improve the filter.

Motor/fan unit set on the cyclone unit. Top cover is a flower pot bought at 100Yen shop (same as 1 dollar shop).

Dust container is of above floor cleaner. I covered the inlet opening by transparent plastic to observe inside to check dust amount.

This is the completed dust collector. Motor/fan/filter unit is set on the cyclone unit by handmade wooden lock, cyclone unit is set on the dust container by original clips. Outlet at the motor/fan unit can be used as the blower also to let the exhausted air not to blow dust all over.
